Ryan Hancock

Ryan D. Hancock, CWS

First Vice President/Investments

Ryan has nearly 30 years of investment industry experience.  He began his career in 1987 at Ameriprise Financial, formerly known as IDS American Express.  In 1989, he left the investment industry to run a large retail business in Chubbuck, Idaho, where he developed relationships with hundreds of customers and suppliers.  In 1997, he sold the businesses and returned to the investment industry as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch, where he met and partnered with Brent Koetter.  Ryan and Brent worked at Merrill Lynch up until the Pocatello branch was closed, and then at D.A. Davidson for nearly 15 years before transitioning their practice to Stifel in 2016. Over the past 25 years, they have established a successful practice helping clients manage their finances and pursue their short- and long-term financial goals.

Ryan believes in long-term investment planning and takes a conservative approach to helping his clients build wealth while seeking to mitigate downside risks.  He prioritizes building relationships with his clients and focuses on helping them identify what matters most to them.  He understands that each client he works with is unique and desires to help them build a legacy for themselves, their families, their businesses, and their friends.

Ryan graduated from Idaho State University with a B.S. in Economics and holds the Certified Wealth Strategist® designation.  Outside of the office, he and his wife, Carol, have been married for 40 years.  They spend much of their spare time with their four children and their spouses, chasing around their 13 grandchildren.  He enjoys all sports and is also active in his church activities.

Brent Koetter

Brent L. Koetter

First Vice President/Investments

Brent has nearly 25 years of experience as a financial advisor.  He began his career in 1998 with Merrill Lynch, and then worked at D.A. Davidson before joining Stifel in 2016.  Prior to beginning his investment career, Brent worked in education, teaching high school math, health, and physical education.  He has had an extensive and successful career as a high school football coach.  The bulk of his coaching experience took place at Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho, where he led his team to multiple state championships.  Brent comes from a family of coaching excellence, which translates into his role as a financial advisor.

In Brent’s first 10 years in the investment industry, he experienced the late 1990s “dot-com bubble” and the 2008 “Global Financial Crisis.”  Through these events, he learned quickly how to guide his clients through times of economic crises.  Specifically, he gained valuable knowledge about asset classes, allocation, and investment strategies.

Brent takes a conservative, common-sense approach to investing and wealth management.  He believes in the supporting evidence that market timing is a faulty approach to taking a long-term perspective and it’s important for his clients to know and understand what investments they own and why.  Over the years, he and his team have built strong and meaningful relationships with their clients, and his legacy means putting those relationships into the hands of those who he knows will carry on with the high standards of service and communication that his team has established.  His son, Joe, and son-in-law, Jeffrey, are now members of the HK Investment Group and act as part of the legacy plan for the team.

Brent earned a B.S. in Ed-Physical Education and an M.P.E. in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University.  Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his kids and grandchildren.  He is also highly active in his church and is a diligent caregiver and guardian to his disabled youngest daughter.

John McCormick

John McCormick, CIMA

Vice President/Investments

John began his investment career with Stifel in 2018.  Prior to joining the HK Investment Group, he spent 35 years in the retail automobile business with the local General Motors dealerships.  For 18 of those years, John was the General Manager of the local Chevrolet dealership.  His years of management experience in the automobile industry provide a strong business background and taught him valuable lessons, including the importance of relationships and understanding customers and how to analyze financial statements.

John’s interest in investment planning began in college as a finance major.  He knew Ryan and Brent personally for more than 30 years before making a career change and joining the HK Investment Group in 2018.  Many of the clients and friends he forged over his long business career have since entrusted their financial legacy to John, a testament to his character and skill set.

John takes a client-focused approach, spending time with his clients to learn what is important to them and what their goals are, and tailoring a specific action plan for them.  He believes in the importance of legacy and enjoys educating the next generation on how investments work and what is possible with the right investment plan.  At this point in his career, he wants to pay it forward by helping his friends, family, and clients establish their own financial legacy.

John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Idaho State University.  In 2023, he attained the Certified Investment Management Analyst® certification after completing coursework administered by the Investments & Wealth Institute taught in conjunction with the Yale School of Management.  He has lived in Pocatello for the last 50 years, graduating from Pocatello High School and then Idaho State University.  John and his wife have three children.
His favorite pastime is playing golf when he is not busy chasing his kids around town while they are pursuing their activities.
